CUATRO CIÉNEGAS
📍 Where to find activities
→ Poza Azul — A turquoise-blue natural spring pool surrounded by desert. One of over 200 pozas (natural pools) in the Cuatro Ciénegas Valley, fed by an underground river system. The water is rich in minerals, and the pools host species that exist nowhere else on Earth. Viewing platforms and self-guided trails.
→ Dunas de Yeso (Gypsum Dunes) — White sand dunes made of calcium sulfate in the middle of the desert. The dunes cover about 800 hectares.
→ Río Mezquites — A network of clear rivers where swimming and kayaking are permitted.
→ Poza La Becerra — A natural pool where swimming and camping are allowed.
→ Las Playitas — A large wetland area near the town, open for walking and boat rides.
→ Centro Histórico — A small desert town with colonial streets, the Callejón de Guevara, the San José Church, and the main plaza. Pueblo mágico since 2012.
→ Museo Casa Carranza — The birthplace museum of Venustiano Carranza, who was born in Cuatro Ciénegas and served as president of Mexico.
→ Bodegas Ferriño — A winery near Cuatro Ciénegas, founded by an Italian immigrant in the 19th century. Wine tastings and tours.
→ Mountain hiking and canyoning — The valley is surrounded by the Sierra La Madera and Sierra La Fragua, with canyons, trails, and desert landscapes.
📍 Where to eat
→ Around the main plaza — Small restaurants serving northern Mexican food: cortadillo (meat stew with tomato and peppers), machaca, queso con chile, tortillas de harina, and tacos.
📍 Where to go out
→ Cuatro Ciénegas has no nightlife. It is a small desert town.
📍 Where to find culture
→ Museo Casa Carranza — Birthplace of Venustiano Carranza.
→ The ecological and scientific significance of the valley—The pozas contain stromatolites (ancient living organisms) that have been studied by researchers interested in the origins of life on Earth. The valley is a protected natural area.
→ Fiesta de la Uva — A grape harvest festival held in July.

📍 Climate by season
Cuatro Ciénegas sits at about 740m altitude in the Coahuila desert with a hot, semi-arid climate.
Winter (November–February) — Highs around 18–22°C (64–72°F). Lows around 4–8°C (39–46°F). Cold desert nights. Dry and sunny.
Spring/Fall (March–May, September–October) — Highs around 26–32°C (79–90°F).
Summer (June–August)—Highs around 35–40°C (95–104°F). Extremely hot.
