Life happens. Every OpenRoom listing has a clear cancellation tier so you know exactly what to expect before you book.

How Cancellation Works

Each property chooses one of five cancellation tiers. The tier is always displayed on the listing page before you book.

Check the Policy

Every listing clearly shows its cancellation tier — Flexible, Moderate, Strict, Very Strict, or Non-Refundable.

Submit a Request

If you need to cancel, submit a request through your booking page. You'll receive a case number for tracking.

Receive Your Refund

OpenRoom reviews every request and processes approved refunds to your original payment method.

Cancellation Tiers

Compare the five cancellation tiers available on OpenRoom.

Flexible

Cancel up to 12 hours prior to check-in. After that, no refund. No-shows are never refunded.

Processing Fee

The 4% payment processing fee is charged to process your payment and is never refundable. Payment processing happens even if the booking is later canceled.

Timing Reference

All cancellation windows are measured against the property's local check-in time (default: 3:00 PM). The property's timezone is used, not yours.

Processing Fee

The 4% payment processing fee is charged for payment processing and is never refunded, regardless of cancellation tier, timing, or reason. Payment processing occurs even when a booking is canceled.

Tax Refunds

Taxes are refunded proportionally to the lodging amount refunded. Refund calculations always use the tax snapshot from the time of booking — rates are never recalculated.

Manual Approval

All refunds are reviewed and approved by our team. The system calculates the proposed refund based on the tier and timing, but a human makes the final decision.

No-Shows & Early Departures

No-shows and early departures are not eligible for automatic refunds. Contact our support team for case-by-case review.

Date Changes

Date modifications are currently handled manually. Contact our support team to request a date change for your booking.

Limited Exceptions

In extraordinary circumstances, OpenRoom may approve a refund outside the standard tier rules. These are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may include:

  • Natural disasters or force majeure events affecting the property
  • Significant property misrepresentation verified by our team
  • Health emergencies with supporting documentation
  • Government-imposed travel restrictions

Exceptions are not guaranteed. OpenRoom reserves the right to make the final determination.
